CAREER PATH

Mary-Faith completed her LLB  at the Nelson Mandela University in Gqeberha and started her working career in a petrochemical company, joining the business as an office administrator and eventually leaving as a trainee trader to pursue her lifelong dream to be an attorney. She started her legal career in a boutique Family law firm in Cape Town focussing on all aspects of Family law including divorce, maintenance, domestic violence and childcare matters. Starting out in Family law, she learnt very early in she career that it is okay to have a heart and a moral compass in business; that you can be a fierce and formidable opponent and still be a compassionate human being to your often very distressed clients. She worked for a sole proprietor, which meant she got introduced to many facets of a legal practice at the very early stages of her career.

Six months after completing her articles, she moved on to join a medium sized firm where she was introduced to the practice of general civil litigation with a particular focus on commercial litigation, property litigation and contracts. It was at this firm where she qualified as a conveyancer and notary public and gained experience in these areas. She then moved on to one of the top corporate law firms in South Africa, where she joined the dispute resolution team specialising in commercial recoveries, liquidations and general contractual disputes.

SAKU ATTORNEYS

Mary-Faith left formal employment early 2018, after which she decided to complete her CSSA board exams and carve her own path outside of the traditional law firm. She wanted to create an environment where she could be happy to spend most of her days and still be able to do great legal work; where everyone will feel respected, valued, supported and encouraged to soar to greater heights irrespective of their gender and / or race. She spends most of her days working towards building Saku Attorneys in line with that vision, and on the principles of ubuntu, justice and excellence.
